About Helen

Helen Kocis Edwards is a Melbourne-based visual artist working in printmaking, drawing, painting and multimedia. Her work explores relationships between humans, animals and the environment through whimsical abstract narratives.

Helen has a studio and is currently a Director at Artery Co-operative Northcote (https://www.acoop.com.au/).

She has a Master Fine Art and is a founding member of Propeller Arts (https://vimeo.com/propellerarts) which delivers multimedia public projects. These have included three projects for Melbourne Writers Arts Festivals and projection animations for Geelong and Ballarat White Nights.

Grants include ArtStart Australia Council, ArtPlay New Ideas Lab and Yarra City Council. Residencies at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venice Italy, Kimberley TAFE Broome and Chiang Mai Thailand which have provided opportunities to work with local and international artists and students through printmaking, drawing and multimedia workshops and exhibitions.

Print and paper based projects and exhibitions feature regularly in Helen’s practice either as artist or curator. Solo shows at Red Gallery (2023), Darebin Arts Centre, Port Jackson Press LWOO and Qdos Galleries. Select-entry exhibitions include Ravenswood Women’s Art, Peebles Intaglio Print, Fremantle Print, InkMasters, Swan Hill and Silk Cut Linocut Awards, Queenscliff Gallery and PCA Print Exchanges, Overwintering MPRG and Flyway Print Exchange (which was exhibited in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia).

Helen curated and participated in Water-Works on Paper, an international collaboration with Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venice Italy in 2020 and 2022

Autumn Imprint 2023 featured an article From the Archive written by the artist. Helen’s work is held in private and public collections nationally and internationally including print collections National Gallery Canberra, State Library Victoria, Silk Cut and InkMasters.
