Julio Oduardo Castañeda was born in Manzanillo, Granma Province, Cuba, and currently resides in Libreville, Gabon, Africa. From a young age, he developed a passion for drawing and painting, which he nurtured while studying at the José Joaquín Tejada Professional School of Arts in Santiago de Cuba. He also earned a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts Education from the Blas Roca Calderio Pedagogical Higher Institute in Manzanillo, Cuba, in 1993.
He works as an Art teacher and is actively engaged in artistic creation. He is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). His work has received numerous awards and recognitions, and he has participated in over 100 group exhibitions and several solo exhibitions, as well as various national and international events. He is also noted for his extensive involvement in social projects and the design of public spaces.
His work has gone through several phases, but he has always remained rooted in the context in which it develops. He draws on his creative experiments, which unmistakably position him at a higher stage of artistic evolution. The mastery of his technique and the depth of his thought are increasingly evident in his visions, where love and anguish, passion and reflective calm coexist, and his indulgence in color leads him toward abstraction.
