About Mikael
Mikael Gjörwell embarked on his artistic journey from an early age, commencing with studies in Arts and Crafts during Senior High School. He further honed his skills by pursuing education at a local Art School for two years. His fascination with digital art led him to northern Sweden, where he delved into computer graphics at Luleå Technical University while concurrently exploring Aesthetics at Umeå University.
Despite his initial trajectory, Mikael transitioned into a role as a teacher's assistant at a high-security prison near his hometown. There he held courses in abstract painting, sketching and drawing. He later shifted his focus to help educate incarcerated young adults. This professional evolution prompted him to pursue a career change, culminating in a Master of Arts degree from Dalarna University. Subsequently, he commenced his tenure as an Art Teacher at a Senior High School.
Throughout his multifaceted journey, spanning from traditional arts studies in his formative years to his current vocation as an artist and educator, Mikael has consistently regarded art as an integral aspect of his life. To him, art represents the pinnacle of qualitative research, wherein an individual's subjective interpretation of a phenomenon is expressed and subsequently reinterpreted by an observer. It serves as a conduit for dialogue between conscious entities.
Mikael's recent artistic endeavors delve into themes deeply intertwined with universal human experiences, such as love, abandonment, sexuality, place, and the observer’s role. His compositions often depict individuals bathed in sunlight and water, captured during contemplative moments along the world's shores. Through these works, he endeavors to capture the unique interplay between human subjects, the observer, and the natural elements, facilitating profound introspection.
Additionally, Mikael endeavors to distill the essence of human emotion in his art, viewing the act of painting figurative motifs as a means to intimately engage with his subjects rather than creating distance. His aim is to forge a connection - both physical and emotional - with the subject matter and individuals portrayed, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of human experience.
