About Mari

Mari Ratia, self-taught textile artist.

Drawings, colors and fabrics have been her passion and have always been an important part of her life. When you look back on your childhood, you always remember yourself drawing. Already in adulthood, her time at the Municipal Art School awakened her interest in drawing and painting with watercolors again. Her curiosity and concern for transforming, improving and adding creativity to everyday objects, such as clothing, furniture, decoration, household linen... led her to discover, about ten years ago, silk painting.

It is then that she begins a whole research project on silk weaving, dyes and paint, techniques and fixings and, two years later, she creates her Arte en Seda painting workshop. Changing paper for fabric and watercolors for dyes was a success since everything she was passionate about had culminated in the union of painting and textiles. During her career in the workshop she has gone from mastering the craft to embarking on a journey of exploration and discovery where she experiments, improvises and does not know the final result of each work.

Her work is based on the creation of new realities through the composition of images, colors, emotions and lived moments that remain in memory, and that through painting, she reconstructs, giving them form and meaning. The objective is nothing more than the desire to preserve for posterity the beauty of the nature that surrounds us present in their memories.

It has numerous exhibitions, both individual and group, held in national and international halls and museums. In the room of the Town Hall of Riba-roja d'Ebre, her hometown, you can see one of her largest works.
