About Dalal
Dalal Farah Baird is a self-taught artist whose work explores the intersection of identity, culture, and memory. Drawing from her diverse background, she creates pieces that reflect her experiences and the narratives of those around her. Baird’s art often incorporates mixed media, allowing her to weave together various textures and forms, symbolizing the complexity of contemporary life.
Her work invites viewers to engage with themes of displacement and belonging, often using vibrant colors and intricate patterns to evoke emotions and provoke thought. Through her art, Dalal seeks to create a dialogue about the ways in which personal and collective stories shape our understanding of ourselves and the world.
Dalal has exhibited her work in various galleries and cultural spaces, fostering connections between her art and broader societal issues. She believes in the power of art to inspire change and foster empathy, making her practice not only a personal journey but also a communal exploration of shared human experiences.
To her, we are spiritual beings having a physical experience and once we accept this concept, our outlook on life changes dramatically. She tries to depict the “universe” within which ought to be acknowledged and her terms “How are your cells” and “Look after your cells” are her way to draw the attention to this beautiful universe within.
Painting is a form of meditation to her. She usually starts with an idea and hardly with a sketch and she lets the brush move freely over the canvas to communicate her emotions and ideas.
Her artwork has been exhibited (solo and group exhibitions) in Sydney, Beirut, Dubai, Paris, New York and Murano, Italy. She has been invited as a guest speaker to the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese American University (LAU), The Lebanese International University (LIU) among many others. As a consultant she worked on projects that involved strengthening peace through art and capacity building in Lebanon, Syria and UAE where she worked with women, youth, volunteers, refugees, women living with HIV/AIDS and with people having special needs.
