In artistic terms, Reinhard Riedel is self-taught. He studied computer science and mathematics, spent decades in positions of responsibility in a large company and retired three years ago. Coming from a family of craftsmen, he has always been very interested in the various types of practical craftsmanship. He firmly believes that art must come from craftsmanship. The path to figurative and realistic motifs as a painter and sculptor was then probably inevitable for him. Especially as his artistic role model from the very beginning was and is Gottfried Helnwein. On the other hand, he was never really interested in abstract approaches, because they are lifeless and only have an effect through colors and textures. In contrast, he was always fascinated by the motifs from fashion photography and the techniques or alienations of photographic art. However, the focus here must always be on individuals, personalities and not on the female sex as an object.
Reinhard Riedel has brought together the various painting techniques. He combines airbrush, pastel, watercolor and oil to create his own working technique. He uses different layers of paint on top of each other to create a very special depth of colour and uses additional textures to create the difference to printed images.
This is the only way he believes he can at least partially compete with the exploding possibilities of artificial intelligence.
