Mike Guillén is an emerging artist, originally from Baja California Mexico, he began his path in the arts self-taught, and then transcended in a more disciplinary and academic way, studying a degree in Plastic Arts, having his participation in his first exhibition at the Rubén García Benavides Gallery. His work focused on the concept of emotional scars. Through them, he seeks to reflect his own experiences, thoughts and feelings. For him, scars are not only traces of pain, but also symbols of resilience and transformation. Each piece he creates is a testimony to his internal struggles, a way to give voice to emotions silenced by fear and anguish. At the same time, he tries to create a space of healing, where not only he, but also the viewer, can find comfort, understanding and freedom.
The motivation behind his work is to be able to close those invisible wounds and take control of his life. Mike wants to stop denying what he feels and express, without fear of contempt, what is kept deep within. His art is a path to liberation, a way to transform pain into beauty, so that, in the midst of darkness, we can find light.
His main technique is watercolor, which allows him to express with subtlety and fluidity the complexities of his emotions. Each stroke and each stain has a symbolic purpose, from the smallest to the largest form. In his works, he captures the wounds of the heart, the cuts of the past and those that have not yet happened, with the intention of turning suffering into something visually beautiful and deeply human.
