All of Marlies' work has only one starting point. It must be in harmony with her feelings. In story, color and composition.
When she had stopped a successful phase of fashion design for applied art, the need arose to delve into her other talents. Namely painting with oil paint and drawing with coloured pencil.
After a number of training courses, old masters are also important teachers for her, but it is mainly a challenge to give her own image to their inspiring examples with plenty of room for fantasy.
Digital painting makes this process even more attractive to use its mega possibilities and to strengthen the fairytale atmospheres with it.
Every time a painting is finished, so many new possibilities have already arisen that this completed work no longer meets her expectations. In fact, there is a continuity in her storytelling that can never be stopped and she always allows herself to be given space for new ideas.
Marlies often has so many ideas that require priority that she is always working on several paintings at the same time.
Because her fantasy cannot be stopped, she sometimes feels stuck and she regularly has to distance herself to achieve what she actually wants to convey. Namely telling a beautiful story with feelings and symbolism as a starting point.
