Marina P. Lambert lives in New York City and for over twenty five years worked mostly as a linguist in language teaching, translation and interpretation.
Her passion for travel inspired interest in travel photography and eventually she received partial education at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in photography.
She became fascinated with lighting and its importance not only for how we see the world but also how we can use it in art. Her artistic sensibilities finally found an outlet in an original project which Marina named Portrait in Motion.
Portrait in Motion project consists of a serious of portraits of real people using long exposure with a digital camera. Within one and each frame a model moves and as a result is presented at several angles. In these portraits one can see not only the same person from different perspectives but also the movement itself, and as the project developed movement became more important than the clarity of the features. These portraits are done in vibrant colors mostly on a black background.
Creation of each portrait was a complicated process which involved working out and setting up very particular almost mathematically precise lighting points, and work with a model, which was the most engaging part for her personally. Her models were ordinary untrained people and it became a true collaboration similar to work of a director and an actor in a theatrical production.
Now this project exists in two formats - digital and as a photo print on board. Physical print on board has no frame or cover so that visually the movement would seem to have no constrains.
