Mixed Media best explains Karen’s artworks.

From 2008-12, she was a student at Salem Community College. She was very fortunate to have Paul Stankard as her professor for 4 years. Her degrees are in Fine Art Glass and Studio Arts.

Her piece entitled Joseph’s Cloak of Many Colors was completed in 2012. It was accepted into Laura Donofer’s Glass Fashion Show, held at the 2012 GAS Conference. Corning Museum of Fine Art Glass published a book displaying all of the pieces. The Renwick Gallery of Smithsonian Art sponsored a show in 2013, where her cloak was purchased by Fluehr Bressler a prominent art collector.

Upon graduation, she volunteered at Wheaton Arts Center doing flame working demos.

Through her artwork Karen wants to encourage brotherhood and love between all people.

She uses colors to symbolize all people, their backgrounds, nationalities and cultures.

She loves to put colors that don’t “go together” in close proximity and see them meld into a cohesive whole. Her desire is for all peoples to love and accept each other.

Artist Statement

<<As a Visual and Mixed Media Artist, I am most inspired by the language and aesthetics of color. I began this series entitled Doodles after the death of my son. They spoke to me of happier times, reminding me of being lost in the pure joy of scribbling.  Each small “world” is separated by lines but together they form a cohesive whole. This mirrors my feelings of being alone in the world while I was grieving and the freedom that comes when one finally allows other presences to be felt. My desire is to reach out to others and share the healing I’ve experienced over the past 24 years.

My desire to bring community, brotherhood and love to all people is expressed through the language and esthetics of glass art. Using colours, shapes, and textures is symbolic to me of the beauty of all ethnicities and backgrounds. My purpose with my art is to help bring about change in our world, oneness and love between all peoples>> (Karen Mooney)
