About Joe

Website: www.islandassemblageart.com

Joe De Haan was born in New York City in 1968, grew up on the Northshore of Boston on a large island, where he now resides and works.

His art career began in 2023 from an inner urge to create something from found seashore objects brought in or turned up by the rhythm of the tides.

He’s long been fascinated by the mystique of the ocean depths and it’s creatures.

Other themes include maritime history and ocean scenes. His practice is assemblage with minimal to no modification of materials.

De Haan strives to instill the abstract creatures with personality, animation, and humor. The relatable struggles, circumstances, emotions and experiences we as humans share with animals are highlighted.
