Art by Christos (b. 1970, Bremen) is a German-Greek abstract artist based in Düsseldorf. He began painting in October 2024, following an inner impulse that transformed a playful experiment with colour into a dedicated practice. His works arise from intuitive, emotion-driven processes and often evolve in layers, shifting between quiet, reduced passages and vibrant, expressive fields of colour.
His preferred medium is silk painting colour, which he frequently combines with acrylics, watercolour, gouache, texture paste and, at times, coloured or wax crayons. This mixed media approach allows him to create unexpected surfaces, subtle transparencies and tactile structures. His visual language echoes elements of Expressionism, biomorphic forms and colour field painting, yet remains distinctly his own.
Art by Christos seeks to create works that are not only seen but felt. Through colour, rhythm and materiality he invites viewers to pause, sense and find their own stories within abstraction. Alongside his studio practice he prepares solo and international presentations and accepts selected commissions for private, corporate and hospitality spaces.
Artist Statement
« I began painting in October 2024 – driven by an inner impulse that could no longer be ignored. What started as playful contact with colour soon became a way to give form to emotion, memory and inner movement. I work intuitively: I do not illustrate, I let the painting grow.
Silk painting colours are at the centre of my practice because of their luminosity and delicacy. I often extend them with acrylics, watercolour, gouache, texture paste or even crayons, so that transparent, fluid passages meet more haptic, material areas. Through layering, wiping, adding and reducing, the surface begins to breathe.
My aim is to create images that resonate – works that are not purely decorative, but open up a space of feeling. Sometimes the result is calm and minimal, sometimes energetic and bright, but always guided by intuition. If a viewer finds a piece of their own story in an abstract painting, then the work has fulfilled its purpose. » (Art by Christos)
